Chinese Economists Club (CEC)
The Chinese Economists Club (CEC) was launched in the era of COVID-19 pandemic. It is an academic platform for Chinese-speaking economists and social scientists from everywhere in the world. CEC is originally derived from the audio discussions on Clubhouse. One of the main goals of CEC is to overcome language barriers that may limit the participation and contribution of Chinese-speaking economists and interdisciplinary scientists in the global academic community. CEC offers a supportive environment where members can communicate and share their ideas freely, without worrying about language proficiency. In addition, CEC seeks to bridge the gap between Chinese-speaking economists and the global academic community by disseminating their research through various channels, including the Briefings on Interdisciplinary Science (BOIS).
What Makes CEC Special?
The Chinese Economists Club (CEC) aims to assist economists and scientists who face language barriers to communicate and exchange ideas through our platform. Our goal is not to exclude non-Chinese speaking members, but to provide a supportive community where language is not a hindrance to scientific communication and discussion. Through the CEC, we act as a bridge to disseminate these ideas to a broader audience and more effectively in the world. In addition, our discussions will lead to the production of Briefings on Interdisciplinary Science (BOIS). We are committed to expanding academic communication beyond a subset of scientists and towards a more diverse and inclusive population.
Our platform boasts a relaxed and informal atmosphere, akin to the conviviality of a brown bag or breakfast workshop on a university campus. Yet, within this setting, we believe that our discussions can inspire new discoveries, fresh perspectives, and groundbreaking ideas - especially in the realm of cross-disciplinary research. These conversations are frequently guided by members who possess expert knowledge in the relevant field, nurturing a dynamic and interactive environment that fosters collaboration and engagement.
We take great pride in fostering an environment that values and honors young scholars in their formative years, just as we do with our esteemed senior members. Our community is founded on the bedrock of equality and respect, irrespective of one's background, alma mater, academic focus, current employment status, or publication history. We are of the belief that every individual holds an innate potential and unique insight that contributes towards advancing scientific thought and inspiring innovative ideas.

CEC Membership
The CEC membership is typically by invitation and nomination from a fellow member. While most of our members are faculties and doctoral researchers who conduct economic and social scientific research in academia, our members also include research data scientists in emerging and interdisciplinary scientific fields working at Google, Facebook and Amazon. We also welcome those who will potentially bring great economic insights to our discussions and be contributors to session topics. Members can choose to list a published profile at the CEC.
Our Member
Our club consists of professional researchers and science enthusiasts from around the world. Currently, we have over 200 approved members, and our membership is constantly growing. Our members come from a diverse range of academic backgrounds, including economics, statistics, computer science, data science, mathematics, physics, sociology, linguistics, and anthropology.
Advisory Committee Member
Our advisory committee members are global senior scientists nominated by CEC members. Our current advisory committee members are faculties and researchers from Development Research Center of the State Council, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Renmin University of China, and University of Copenhagen.
What we do
On a regular basis, we organize academic discussions online to explore emerging and intriguing academic topics. While some of these topics may fit within established academic fields, others are interdisciplinary in nature. Our platform provides Chinese-speaking economists with the opportunity to build academic networks and promote scientific collaborations in cross-disciplinary fields, including the economics of artificial intelligence and econophysics.
